Community Futures of Central Island is an independent,
non-profit organization consisting of volunteers and staff who
are committed to fostering economic development and sustainable
employment within the central Vancouver Island region. As such,
our focus is to build community economic and entrepreneurial capacity,
with an emphasis on long range strategic planning and results.
Since its inception in 1975, Community Futures
of Central Island has assisted more than 2,000 businesses with
either start-up or expansion funds, provided over $15 million
in debt and equity financing, and have leveraged an additional $20
million from other sources. As a result, more than 2,500 jobs
have been created for local residents in the Regional District
of Nanaimo and the Town of Ladysmith.
Featured Event:
Business Retention and Expansion Workshop (via Videoconference)
Community Futures Central Island is hosting a
complimentary Professional Development Video Conference, July 21st - 2:00 p.m.,
420 Albert Street, on Business Retention and Expansion with Mike Stolte.
More than 80% of new jobs are generated from businesses that already
exist within a community. Yet, many economic development efforts focus on
expensive recruitment campaigns. This workshop will explore business retention
and expansion programs that have helped to maximize business success and
generate jobs in small communities. It will also provide some simple tools to
get started in your community.
