This full-day session is designed for professionals and organizations that support local businesses who do not have a background in emergency management. The training will provide practical tools and strategies to help communities prepare for and recover from economic disruptions caused by natural disasters, global events, or other unexpected shocks. Community Futures Central Island is hosting the training with support from the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness and the Ministry of Jobs and Economic Growth.

Why it matters:

As our region continues to grow and diversify, building economic resiliency is essential. While emergency response has traditionally been the domain of first responders and emergency managers, economic recovery is where you play a critical role. Supporting local businesses and rebuilding economic confidence are all key components of recovery—and they require your expertise and leadership.

Interactive Tabletop Scenario Exercise – Focused on Recovery

A highlight of the day will be a tabletop scenario exercise focused specifically on the recovery phase—the stage that follows immediate emergency response. Participants will work through a simulated economic disruption event and explore how to support businesses and rebuild local economies after the immediate emergency response has concluded. This hands-on activity is especially valuable for those new to emergency management, offering a collaborative and accessible way to understand the roles, decisions, and strategies involved in economic recovery.

In tandem with the tabletop scenario, we have asked industry leaders/experts to provide insights to topics such as insurance, communications, tourism, workforce, health and safety, agriculture and food, rural resiliency and resources.

This training is a valuable opportunity to build capacity and strengthen regional resilience.
