In 2018, I met with Kelly at Community Futures Central Island to discuss options to help finance an esthetics business. I secured a small room rental and got to work. Within a year, I had outgrown this opportunity and set foot to expand. It was next that I took the biggest leap in my entrepreneurial journey and signed the lease for my own large spa space. Without missing a beat, I hired staff, continued my education, began teaching and opened La Vida Lashes and Boutique 6 months later.
Focused on providing excellent service and supporting the community was our biggest priority. We volunteered our time with local events and fundraisers and began our own Christmas project in 2019 to anonymously provide Christmas to 10 local families.
2020 came with our biggest struggle and unfortunately Covid-19 caused a three month shut down for the business. Being only a year into this adventure, there was a lot left unknown. My staff and I committed ourselves to taking this time to set new goals, continue advancing our education and caring for ourselves. We came back stronger than ever.
In early 2020, I was contacted by the Parksville Chamber of Commerce as an award nominee and finalist for “Young Professional of the Year,” (2019), which I was awarded in June 2020. To date, this has been my biggest accomplishment and the validation that we as a business within the community are on the right track.
All in all entrepreneurship has been full of ups and downs, sleepless nights and new adventures. I am so blessed to be part of this small business community and I wouldn’t change it for the world.
