My name is Jennifer O’Neill, and I am the owner and director of Sparkling Legacy Home Services.

My entrepreneurial journey with Sparkling Legacy started almost by accident. After nursing for a decade and experiencing life-altering burnout in my role as a nurse manager, I decided on a quieter life and embarked as a solopreneur housekeeper. For two years, I worked alone with a focus on cultivating balance and calm in my life while implementing routines that would support my neurodivergent family. Unexpectedly, one of my favourite cleaning clients introduced me to a government adjacent RFP, and I ended up successfully becoming an ICBC housekeeping partner vendor. I did this so I could continue servicing her and offering her direct-billing, but I was naive to the scope of need in our community for direct- billed housekeeping.

Soon, I had to decide: either grow, or turn people in need away. That’s when our growth exploded, and Sparkling Legacy grew from a business of one to a business of 20 staff within a year and a half. It went from a modest operation that covered the bills of one household to gross billings of over $30000 a month. Due to community demand combined with my professional background/experience, (a decade of nursing and two decades of management,) we are now offering home care in addition to housekeeping. All of our services are available with direct- billing so a lack of cash doesn’t have to exclude clientele in need.

While it has been (and continues to be) a lot of hard work, long hours, perseverance, and “failing forward”, I really value that I get to create jobs in my community that are inclusive and that I also have the capacity to pay a Living Wage while I do it. I’m really thankful to Community Futures for supporting our continued growth so I can invest back into my team and our community, and proceed with our vision to offer excellent, dependable, and affordable housekeeping and home care services to Vancouver Island while also ensuring a flexible, equitable, and supportive growth environment for employees.
